Hannara Party Encourages Students to Report Progressive Teachers

news

There is a strange bulletin board at the Korean Hannara Dang website. The title of the board: "This is the bulletin board for informing on members' education influenced by ideological tendencies to students in the classroom." The opposition party published the board January, 2006.

On the site, the party says that the KTU delivers education influenced by 'ideological tendencies' and uses 'conscientization' teaching material. The party encourages parents and students to accuse their teachers of "ideological prejudices."

Jang Eun-sook, the general secretary of a parents' organization, said that "Hannara is asking parents and students to report progressive teachers ... it is the opposition party which has severe ideological tendencies, and even if a teachers' union has taken a certain position regarding the revision of the private school law, it is nonsense that the party should urge students to report their teachers."

A parent who saw the board said, "the opposition party members wanted to benefit by separating teachers. Stop it right now. And what kind of learning will happen in the classroom if a student supervises a teacher's conscience?"
